Once the LGA accepts an application, a letter of intent is issued. This letter acts as a temporary license for six months. Within these six months the licensee must submit to a certification process.
Some licensee may not be able to go operational immediately upon receiving the letter of intent and may then have a problem being ready for the certification within the six months. In these cases, the licensee has to apply for an extension of 3 months. Only one extension is allowed, after which the letter of intent expires.
The certification process is very thorough and the licensee has to commit a serious amount of time and resources on passing on certification. However, the process is an opportunity for the licensee to ensure he has a properly run operation.
Licensees who have engaged GamingServices for the control system documentation typically have an easy time because all the aspects of the certification would have been dealt with in advance.
On successful completion of the certification process, the licensee is awarded a license for 5 years.
GamingServices has helped many licensees pass their certification process, typically in the role of a key official or an external consultant.
ISO 17799: This is a standard which large organizations can undertake to check their Information Security. The LGA does NOT require ISO 17799 from the licensee, and only organizations approved by the ISO body can offer ISO 17799 standard. Neither can a licensee claim to be ISO 17799 after the certification process.
What the LGA have done is to base their audits on the ISO 17799, taking those elements which are relevant. Needless to say, the certification process is about the proper running of the business under the obligations of the license and therefore goes far beyond the scope of simple IT security.
